News on the Threat of Identity Theft

The time is right for Entrust America to launch thousands of Identity Protection Agencies across the nation. Peer to Peer marketing technologies are the most effective delivery method for a service that’s needed by all consumers.

Identity Theft affects everyone - even our children. The FTC says it’s the Number 1 concern of American consumers and our fastest growing crime. The Department of Justice warns that thieves strike without needing to break into a home. Law Enforcement is not sure how to respond.

There’s a new victim in America every 79 seconds. Gartner Inc. says there were 15 million victims last year. That’s a 50% increase since 2003.

Everyone in America is at Risk

Frank W. Abagnale, Jr., a leading security expert and former identity thief (the feature film Catch Me If You Can was based on his fraud career) said:

“If you haven't been a victim of identity theft, it is because thieves haven't gotten to you yet. Your turn will come.”

It is a virtual certainty that someone you know will be a victim of ID Theft this year. Yet most Americans are defenseless. All consumers protect their home, life and car against events that are long shots – yet less than 1 out of 10 Americans has protection against Identity Theft.

Cleaning up the mess left behind by an identity thief can be costly and may take years to fix.

An identity thief can wreck your credit score and good name. The resulting bad credit means you pay more for:

Ø Housing and Mortgages

Ø Home, Auto and Life Insurance

Ø Car Loans

Ø Cell Phones

Ø Essential services

Consumers may have trouble finding a new job or securing an apartment because employers and landlords now check applicant’s credit.

The IRS says there are over 8 million Social Security Numbers being used by more than one person. No consumer can be certain their SSN is not used illegally by someone else.

Identity theft even puts consumer’s health at risk. Medical Insurance theft is the fastest growing form of identity theft. The FTC reported over 200,000 such incidents last year.
